How image to text works, and its limits

This tool uses OCR (optical character recognition) to read printed text from photos, screenshots and scans. It runs entirely in your browser, so your images are not uploaded to our server; only the language data it needs is downloaded once from a public content network. For the best result, use a sharp, well-lit, straight-on image where the text is dark on a light background. Handwriting, very small or blurry text, curved pages and fancy fonts are often read poorly, and scripts such as Hindi are generally less accurate than English, so always proofread the result. To keep your browser responsive, each image can be up to 25 MB.
